Puppies for Palestine
My first Gaza ceasefire protest was on 25th Nov 2023, in London. The protest at that time appeared to be largely made up of UK citizens with a Middle Eastern or North African background. Since then I have attended a further twelve protests, making the journey down to London whenever I’ve been able to. The constituency of the protesters certainly became more varied with time as more and more sectors of British society felt emboldened to attend, ignoring the shouts of Israel-supporters that they were “keffiyeh-clad terrorists”.
The demonstrations that I attended were powerful statements that made the support for ending the Israeli genocide clearly visible. They were also important claims for the liberation of the Palestinian people from Israeli oppression and apartheid. I never saw any violence, however I did see the police detaining people. On 18th Jan 2025, I watched police allow leaders of the protest demonstration pass through a police cordon before detaining them for doing so. The group included Chris Nineham, Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell.
Each time I attended, I always saw puppies who had also come along to show their support. Here are some of them.
